2001 Kia Carens

I am trying to change my thermostat in my carnival. I have taken half the engine out to get to it. Some sites have said it is on the side. My one I think is below the manifolds and has a plastic cover. I ac get to it now since I have stripped the motor. It has two bolts and a plastic shaft that leads to the water pump. It does'nt seem to want to come off is it glued in or am I missing something.

Many Thanks

did the motor recently overheat? if so then the thermostat gasket probably melted and sealed the two surfaces together. will just have to take a flat blade tool and pry it apart.
