We have tried the steering wheel wiggle method and put WD40 in the lock and the key still won’t turn in the ignition. It was working earlier in the week. Please could you help?

Hello,

There are many ways of getting the steering lock to disengage, see good video below.

If all ways fail, you will need to replace the ignition barrel.
To access the ignition barrel the upper and lower steering column covers need removing.
Then to remove the ignition barrel you will need to remove the restriction bolt on top of the barrel. See image 1 below

See video below.

Once bolt is removed next press down on the retainer and remove the ignition barrel from the housing. See image 2.
Note that you will need to turn the ignition with either the key or a different way, as explained in video 1.

Please let us know how you get along.

Cheers, Boris

Hello,

As you are replacing the ignition barrel you will have to force it by knocking a suitable screwdriver into it until you can turn the ignition. As advised on the previous video.

Another video.

Please keep in mind that if you fit a new ignition barrel you will need to have it matched to your old key by a locksmith. Like this you can use the same key again for all the other locks. If you are using a new key then you will need to have it programmed to your vehicle, otherwise it will not start.

Cheers, Boris
