My ex boyfriend got mad and while in park, shifted the gears up and down and I heard something pop. Now I can't remove my key. Also I can shift gears without pushing button.

Hi,

It sounds like he broke the shift interlock assembly in the shift assembly. If that's the case, The Brake Shift Interlock Actuator (BSIA) is not serviced separately. If a new BSIA (Brake Shift Interlock Actuator) is required, you have to install a new transmission selector lever assembly.

The only way you can be sure is to take apart the shift assembly and check for broken components. I am going to provide the directions for replacement of the BSIA. Note, I am not suggesting it be replaced, but the directions explain how things come apart. The attached pics correlate with the directions.

Since the actuator can no longer lock in park, that is why the key won't come out.

I opened up the shifter compartment and it looks like maybe a spring that broke. Could that be it?

Hi,

Chances are that spring is part of a unit. Can you take a picture of it and upload it for met to see exactly what you are referring to?

Hi. So sorry for the late response I had some personal issues I had to take care of. Hopefully you're still watching for my post. So I can't find little spring thing I don't know what I did with it.
But it look like it came out of here.

Hi,

The video was fine. Honestly, I feel the park interlock actuator was broken. I really feel the lever assembly needs replaced simply because the actuator isn't serviceable. I'm sorry to have to say that, but I feel that is the only fix.

Actually, the push rod that you pulled from the top of the shifter should have a spring at the bottom of it as well.

Please feel free to let me know if I can help in any way.

Joe
