The transmission shifter cable was detached from transmission. Shifter was in park but transmission showed reverse. Replaced bushing and attached cable to transmission. Now the button to release shifter doesn't work, shifter moves freely. The key will not go into off position, won't go past key on engine off.

The key will not go off because the cable is not adjusted. There should be a adjustment on the cable. Make sure it is in park. Then adjust the selector switch so it locks in park. Then tighten it up. It sometimes is just a wire that goes to the shift indicator.
