Hello,

Sorry for the delay we had an issue with the system. Can you put the transmission in park? if so it sounds like the key tumbler is broken/worn out here are diagrams to help you replace it. Make sure you get the new one from the dealer bring your VIN number with you so they can program it before you install it.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

This is a 2002 Ford Escort. There are 4 sections on the key ignition. Lock(l), Acc (l), On(ll) and Start(lll). The key has been stuck in the igintion in the Acc (l) position for over a week. The battery is now drained, the car won't start and there are no lights or dingers coming on at all.
Any suggestions on how to get the key out? There is no button to press anywhere to release the key or the shift gear.

thanks

Most cars require you to push in to allow the key to go the the off position. If your key is still suck in ACC. and will not move to "Run" (ON) or "Off" (Lock) be advised that this is common. The steering column locks in ACC postion as well as Lock position. Suggest turning your steering column hard left & or right while attempting to turn the key to the off position.

If the moving of the wheel does not allow movement of the key I would suggest spraying a lubricant in to the lock, wait a while, spray it again and then try the lock. Now if the lock still fails to move in either direction, it is time to have the lock replaced.

Key won't come out of ignition, it still cranks my car and will turn the engine off but it stays in the ACC position. Just want to know if there's a trick to get my key to turn OFF and able to pull it out of the ignition? Tired of having to take the negative battery terminal loose when I'm at work etc to avoid draining my battery...

1999 Ford Escort Automatic 144000 miles

Tonight when I went to go out, I couldn't get the key to turn in the ignition. It would go to the on position, the steering wheel would unlock, the radio would come on, but then the key wouldn't move any further. We tried shifting the from park to neutral, wiggling the key, holding the button in on the gear shift, but nothing would work.

Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

Thanks
