Turned car off and key is stuck in ignition. Shifter moves freely between all gears, but does not make the typical "park" click. It still locks and unlocks the doors. I disassembled the radio to start to remove the entire ignition assembly, but cannot seem to find where Ia m supposed to remove it through, no practical exit. Have been having issues with the switch (will turn over and shut off or had to wiggle key a d flip it to get it to go in), but since it is not driven much we kept putting it off. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hello,

Please check the key interlock cable while you are changing the ignition switch. Here are diagrams to help you do the repair below.

Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Cheers, Ken

Thank you. Now, the second image, what is it indicating for me to remove? Nothing on the side seems to have something for me to remove, unless I am missing something.

There should be two small bolts or screws holding the ignition switch in. Can you take a close up shot of what you are looking at?

So that bolt you cannot remove or when you remove the bolt the ignition will not come out because the key is stopping it? When both bolts are out the switch should come out from behind.

That is where the issue is. I do not understand how to get the ignition out. From behind what? It is still attached to wires and I see no "exit" route for it. The side in the picture has nothing for me to remove, and the bottom of the steering column has the metal plate thing that does not budge.

If you pull on the wires does the switch want to follow? You might need to remove some dash mounting bolts to remove more pieces. Can you send me more pictures of the area because the diagrams show the switch coming out of the side.

Get close up and then back up a little so I can see.
