There is a pin on the shifter assembly that keeps backing out preventing the removal of the ignition key. Wondering if the pin may be worn or hole damaged my mechanic says it is not, but the problem happens periodically. Is there a fix? It is getting aggravating.

If the pin is the one at the top of the pivot above the shift interlock solenoid that goes through the plastic it is possible the hole is worn. I have used loctite on loose parts like that. The bearing retainer type seems to work best.
