Car battery died after six months and now the key fob needs to be replaced is there anyway I can do this myself?

If you have another one you can program it yourself, but check battery auto parts can check it as well as see if it still works or not.

I only have one fob and the dash is saying key not detected.

Then it is the key not the fob. You will have to have a mechanic or locksmith program a key for you then the anti theft is keeping you from stating car not the key fob.

The problem could be a bad key or bad key reading sensor or even a simple broken wire. The problem is to determine which it is. The dealer would likely be the fastest fix (probably not the cheapest though) as they can scan the system and see where the problem is, and be able to get the proper parts faster.
