Key chip not working

How do you know if the key chip is not working?

One symptom would be the car would not start and a theft light would be on. A place that makes duplicate keys with chips might be able to test the key for you. Otherwise you would have to have the car scanned with a professional scan tool that can read all the computers. Not a diyer scan tool.

The key does not have a battery in it, is the security light flashing?
