I have installed new Mopar filter and fresh oil, as well as coolant. I wiped down both heads, and thoroughly cleaned every part that was out of the engine. But I worry about dirt or dust may have gotten in places I can't see. Does it make sense to run engine for full warm up cycle, check for leaks, drive 20 miles, then drain oil and change filter or drive 500 breaking miles then change oil and filter. Engine had head work, timing cover off, etc. So want to be sure I use the best possible process. I did have oil pan off and cleaned everything in that area as well. Any other advice on initial start up? I am a SW guy trying to fix wife's van. So need help to insure I don't do something stupid. Thanks

Hi,

Actually, I like the idea you have. The 20 miles should remove anything left behind. It is a good idea and if it was mine, I would do the same. As far as the start up. Allow it to idle for about a minute before hitting the throttle. That will allow oil to reach everything.

Feel free to let me know if you have other questions.

Joe
