Jump start mishap

I recently tried jumping my stepdaughter's vehicle. It was dark out and I mistakenly inverted the cable connections on the battery. I messed up and after replacing the battery, the car turns like it is going to start, but does not. I tried starter fluid, but nothing. I did not notice any blown fuses, but I could have missed one. Any suggestions?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

There is a good chance you blew one of the main fuses to the ignition.

Check the following fuses:

Picture 1 and 2 show ignition fuses and specifically for the ICU and ignition coil. Locate and check these fuses.

Picture 3 shows the fuse box under the hood. Check the battery (50 amp) ECU (30 amp), the ECU B, the main (120 amp) and all ignition fuses and battery 2.

Here are a couple links to help:

Let me know what you find.

I will check it out tomorrow and report back. Hopefully that is all it is. I do not have a garage to push it into and be able to look at after dark. I am off tomorrow and will check it out in the light.

Well it starts. The ignition coil fuse was blown. It starts but now the blower fan for the heat does not blow. I checked the fuses and seem to be okay. Could it be one of the bigger plug in fuse like things on the fuse panel under the hood? I cannot tell if those are bad.

Also, the battery light on the dash is lit up. Should I disconnect and reconnect the battery?

It is normal for it to be on with the key on and engine off. If you have it running and it is staying on, I suspect you may have blown the main fusible link. A fusible link looks like a wire but functions as a fuse. If the engine runs but the alt is not charging, check for power to the black wire at the alternator. See the attached picture.

Here are a few links that you may find helpful:

Let me know what you find. If there is power, I would disconnect the battery and remove the alternator. Have it bench tested at a local parts store.

If you get to that point, here are the directions for removing the alternator. The remaining pictures, starting with the second one, correlate with these directions.

______________________________________

REPLACEMENT

1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal first, then the positive terminal.
2. Temporarily loosen the water pump pulley bolts.

See picture 2

3. Remove the generator drive belt(A) , after loosening the adjusting bolt and mounting bolt.
4. Remove the power steering pump belt(B).

See picture 3

5. Remove the water pump pulley.
6. Remove the power steering pump.
7. Remove the power steering pump bracket.
8. Disconnect the generator connector (A), and remove the cable (B) from generator "B" terminal.

See picture 4

9. Remove the adjusting bolt (A) and mounting bolt (B).
10. Remove the generator brace(C).
11. Pull out the through bolt (D) and then remove the generator (E).

See picture 5

12. Installation is the reverse order of removal.
13. Pretighten the water pump pulley bolts.
14. Adjust the power steering pump belt tension.
15. Adjust the generator belt tension after installation.
16. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
