1995 Jeep Wrangler Timing Chain Claim

I own a 1995 Jeep Wrangler with about 110,000 miles on it. I brought it to the shop to fix an oil leak on the main rear seal and also to change the valve cover gasket. After bringing it in, the mechanic told me that my timing chain was about to break and that it also needed changing. Someone told me that the timing chain was nowhere near the rear main seal or valve cover gasket and that this new, unexpected problem sounded "fishy". Is it possible to see the timing chain while making the other repairs or does this also seem odd to you? If it seems odd, what should I do? Also, approximately what should be the cost of these repairs?

Cindy, go with your gut feeling. i am 51 years old and have only seen a timing chain break on a drag car. if your engine is a chrysler engine it has a timing chain at the front of the engine and can't be seen without removing pullies and belts. a bad timing chain sounds like the engine has gravel in the front of the engine, plus it has a rough idle.
