When I put my jeep into four wheel, first gear, and turn my wheel it starts shaking the whole jeep when i start to move. This only happens when I turn in first gear though. Is this a bad transfer case?

OK Jeep guy, Gotta read your stuff! Maybe can be found in the interior of your rig. 4WD is ONLY for off road--unless you have one of those ALL WHEEL DRIVE RIGS. 4X4 will shake and shudder, when the wheels (tires) cannot slip (dirt) This is due to : Your diffs being the same ratios-will SORTA move foward in unison in 4WD, when you turn the wheel (L or R ) you have changed the GEOMETRY in the front (via thru diff compensaton, for one wheel traveling further than the other) You start binding front ratio against the rear. Thus we get SHIMMY and SHUDDER! It is acceptable to use 4X4 on hard surface for pulling somebody out, crossing a hard surface, from one dirt road to another, very short spurts. Constant 4X4 on a hard surface will bind the INTERNALS of your DRIVETRAIN, Excessive wear on gears, bearings etc.---NOT TO MENTION BREAKING STUFF!----In the SHORT/LONG RUN....$$$...STRANDED! RESPOND?...IS THIS YOUR ANSWER?...OR HAVE I MISUNDERSTOOD? Love, Turddog "WILLY" one of my 2 JEEPS
