2000 jeep wrangler with 65000 miles. After the engine warms up, about 5 mins, the oil pressure gauge will hover between 0 and 20. When at a stop light the pressure will read almost 0 and the check engine light comes on. At this point the engine will run kinda rough. I just changed the oil to semi-synthetic and this has not solved the proplem. I"m using the right weight of oil. Thanks for your help.

Have the codes read. A lot of large auto parts chains will do this for free.

Good luck and post back. :D

I have a 99 jeep laredo, and today it started loosing oil pressure. The gauge drops when car is in idle, but goes back up when driving. I was told that it needs a new oil pump. I thought about changing the oil to see if that makes a difference but not too sure that will work.

How many miles? Any other problems, check engine light, rapping ticking, oil leaks, etc? Low pressure can be an underperforming oil pump, excessively worn bearing, or a bad or leaking sending unit. If you have no tell tale noise change the oil and see what happens. Have the pressure checked with a different gauge to rule out problems with the sending unit, lines and the gauge itself.

Good luck and let us know. :)

This morning I got an oil change. My jeep has 146,000 miles on it. As for noise, I hear a ticking sound when idling after its been running for a bit. After changing the oil the pressure went back to normal for about 20min then dropped again. Not long after dropping it went all the way to the highest point. I dont have any leaks. Etc but in the morning it gives me some trouble starting. I noticed that after it drops, turning the car off for about 45min then back on, oil pressure is normal. Guys at the oil change place said if it was the oil pump I would not get far at all. Gauges?

The oil pressure sender is a common problem on these vehicles. I'd spend a few bucks and change it 1st.
