I replaced the fuel pump/sending unit and now it won't start. Do I have to purge the air from the system? If so, how do I do that?

Hi there.

Petrol systems are self bleeding, do you have fuel rail pressure? Do you have injection pulse? Do you have spark?

The jeep ran just fine before I changed the pump. I was getting a code for bad fuel level, so I changed the entire unit.

Check the fuel pressure at the rail, if no pressure you have an electrical problem, faulty new pump or the lines are back to front, can this happen? Are they the same size?

The pumps were the same. Is the fuel line directional? I don't remember taking it off, but may have and put it on backwards.

Most pumps have 2 lines, pressure and return, some time with a 3 purge line (vapor) we really have to know if the pump is work, can you hear it hum when the ignition is turned on, do you have any fuel pressure?

Mark.

I do not have a gauge to check pressure. Do I need one? The pump does hum when the ignition is turned on. There is only one line that comes out of the top of the pump and one eletrical connection.

Take line off fuel filter and check for good flow, that should be enough for now, also check for spark and make sure that the plugs are not fouled up, have you run a scan as yet?

Fixed it. When I installed the "used" fuel pump/sending unit, I never noticed that the pick up tube was broken off inside the short extension tube that conntects to the pump motor. No wonder I was not getting any fuel. Thanks for all of your help today.
