Follow up to first question! Battery was replaced back during the summer and has been fine since. Was driven the day before, came home last night temperature dropped to 15 degrees ( I know cold weather can be hard on batteries and starters) Woke up this morning and nothing but a "Click", gauges working fine and memory still good on radio. Vehicle would not strart using Battery charger on "Start Engine" mode, and also tried to using heavy duty jumper cables and my diesel truck. Still no luck. Do you think its the selonoid? Just looking for ideas before I change it out only to find out hours later and $150 later thats not the problem!

Sounds like the starter selenoid. Can you turn the key on and ark the starter across the terminals and make it crank? It sound like the starter is stuck and taking to many amps to turn over. Curt

02/07/09 It was the starter. The Master Mechanic at The Generator Shop in Gastonia, NC hooked it up to some juice to make it spin one time and looked at me and said the bushings were shot. Then he took it apart and showed me! (How he could tell that just by the sound is beyond me, but I quess thats why he is a Master at his work) Oh yea, the rebuild was less than half the price of buying the cheapest rebuilt starter from Advance store and the quality is better than their most expensive model. Most rebuilds are done in hours not days assuming they have the parts.
Got the jeep fixed, drove it a day and half and now the Throw-out barrings are shot. Oh well thats a new chapter.
