I was informed to day that a piece of my rear differential broke off. My mechanic told my that I need to replace the entire rear differential. Is that necessary or can I simply replace the broken piece?

Hi there,

Normally you get a broken tooth on the crown wheel, is this your problem,? if so the crown wheel and pinion must be replaced as a set, for expediency sake you normally get a re built change over differential, i presume that this is what he will be doing, it may pay to clarify this with him.
