1995 Jeep Wrangler 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 109k miles

i have a 95 yj with a 6 inch skyjacker lift and 35 inch tires and when i put it in 4 wheel drive and turn the wheels,it starts making a noise like maybe the power steering is going out or something to that affect....what could this be?

quick question... when you added the bigger tires and bigger lift, did you compensate by changing the offset on the rims?

My first guess is the tires are rubbing against the fender wall, which is what is making the noise. That noise would be a kind of clunking type noise that might feel like it's in the steering. Have someone stand outside the vehicle while you crank over the wheels - if they are rubbing = voila.

The second noise you might hear - high pitched squeal? this is the noise made by the pump straining... this is due to either a lack of fluid (check the level first), or the tension on the serpentine belt running the pump. If it feels tight, as in you can push it down less than a thumb depth, then the belt is tight enough. If it pushes down with more play than that, the belt needs attention. If it's not the belt, and not the pump fluid level - the pump might be coming to it's end.
