This is exclusively internal damage. It is most likely a broken linkage. It would be best if a transmission shop overhauled it; however, if you purchased a manual for the AX5, knowledgable about how the system works and you have the proper tools then you might be able to do the work yourself. Please keep in mind that there are very specific tolerances that must be made otherwise the gears will not mesh properly and transmission failure will result.
