First, your jeep has a carb on it and not fuel injection. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks around the carb and the engine area. Many times the vacuum lines get hard and dry rot causing a leak. If there are no leaks, there is an adjustment on the carb that wil adjust the idle speed. You may need to adjust it.
Let me know what you find. Also, sometimes you can hear a hissing sound from a vacuum leak when the engine is running. Make sure you are careful around the fan and other moving parts.
