1993 Jeep Wagoneer V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

welll tehre is way to many volts on the gauge
almost 17 or so, the check engine light is coming on

The voltage regulator has failed and the alternator is over charging, get this looked at ASAP as this can do serious damage to the electrical system.
