Stalling at lights and speedometer working intermittently

Two problems:
1. Randomly while sitting at a light idling my jeep will just stall. I put it in neutral and it starts and runs with no problem. Highway driving everything works fine 99% of the time. 1% (while in lower gears) the truck gives a jolt almost as if it is skipping a beat and then continues to run fine.
2. The speedometer works intermittently, but the tachometer gauge works perfectly. My mileage does not move when the speedometer is not working.

Love the vehicle (we actually have two from the same year). Would like to fix these issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

I think the speedometer and the jerking could be related. Is sounds like you have a vehicle speed sensor that is going out. Here is a diagram to show you where the sensor is so you can check it out.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

Ken,

Thank you for your assistance. We changed the Output Vehicle Speed Sensor and the ABS sensor on Friday. My jeep is a 4-wheel drive and the VSS wasn't easy to get to. The speedometer didn't work afterwards and the car ran rough (sputtering a few times on the way into work today). I understand there is another Vehicle Speed Sensor (Input). Thanks for the diagram which confirms. How difficult is this one to get to with the vehicle being a 4-wheel drive? Could this still be the problem?

Lets continue by checking the fuses to make sure none are out. Here is a guide and some diagrams (below) to help you get the job done.

Thanks. We will check out the fuses tonight. In the meantime, can you tell me how difficult the input Vehicle Speed Sensor is to get to with the truck being a 4-wheel drive? I'm hoping it's easier to get to than the output one was.
