1999 Other Jeep Models brake lights

I have a grand cherokee and i have had a lot of trouble with the brake lights, they don't work but every other light does. the first time i solved the problem by replacing the whole tail light console but now both brake lights don't work and i have tried new bulbs, checked the fuses and i don't know where to go from here. i really don't want to pay a lot of money to have a mechanic fix it so what can i do to fix it?

Lets try the brake switch follow the brake pedal arm to the brake support bracket-disconnect the connector to it and jump it -did the brake light came on?
