I have a 95 Jeep GC with 198,000 miles. Recently it started to go automatically to just over 2000 rpms when started, taking several minutes before claming down to normal idle. Along with this the vehicle is dropping out of O/D randomly at 55-60. The thought was the TPS but could that cause both problems?

Yes it could cause both problems, because the trans shifts off of engine performance sensors fed by the TPS.
