2005 Jeep Liberty Brakes smell, clunk

Brakes seem to smelll like over use, but not driven far. also hear clunking noise from time to time. Just bought new tires and had them mounted. Could the tire guy screw something up? Brake pads have never been changed yet.

I would have the brakes inspected soon. If you are doing it yourself. Check to make sure the calipers are not binding. If they are you will notice the pads and rotors having a red rusty color from overheating. Also check to see if the pads are wearing evenly.
