My jeep wont start. I have a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Lorado 4.0 6cyl with 166,000 with a new engine being factory installed at about 100,000 miles. I have went through all the steps. I have changed the ignition coil pack and distributor. Its just not getting any spark. I thought it was the fuel so i changed the filter and tested the psi in the engine compartment and it has fuel but wont start. What could be the problem?

Try checking the ASD relay this is the one that powers the coil/injectors/fuel pump thru the fuel pump relay-

Be advised the computer energizes the ASD relay

If it just cranks over and over with no start, try checking the crank sensor. I posted about this on two other threads. Its a pain in the butt little sensor that sits on the top diverside of the transmission bell housing and runs a wire harness into the back of the engine compartment. It senses the position of the teeth on the wheel inside the bell housing to tell the spark plugs to "spark" and has a VERY small tolerance to work. These wiggle out of place even just a micro hair and the car will crank forever but never spark.

I went through many a headache and curse word before figuring out this was the culprit. FYI ive had my jeep for 10years now and have replaced this sensor twice. On later models they made it larger with a sturdier mounting bracket to avoid this problem.

good luck
