Driver AC Cold and Passenger/Rear Vents

Chances are there is a vacuum leak. THe vents are actuated by vacuum. IF there is a leak, they won't work correctly. Check under the dash.

this question is for a 2004 jeep chereokee laredo v6, 45,000. the problem is that when we turn on the AC it does not throw air out threw the front vents it comes out on the defroster. the air seems to be cold air but its coming out of the wrong place. what can we do to repair it?

When you make a change in the selection of air outlet, there is a door activated within the dash that directs the air to your preference. This is accomplished by either vacuum actuator or electric actuator, or in some cases, a combination of the two. The Leredo happens to be a vehicle that uses vacuum that is directed by an electrical selection switch to power the motor. I would suggest checking the vacuum supply from the engine to the blend door motor. This comes in through the firewall as a small 1/4" line located just right of center of the windshield at the firewall. If this line is broken or cracked, there will not be sufficient flow to power the door. The door will then go to a "neutral" location, which is usually the defroster.
The other thing that can cause this is a faulty selector switch in the dash. The switch could be mis-sending your preference to the actuator controller.
This will have to be tested by someone who has the tools and proper diagrams to determine if the selector
switch is operating properly.
