2003 Jeep Laredo Car overheating at idling

2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO

My car is overheating when idling, the fan is not kicking on but a direct line run from the fan to the battery shows that the fan does in fact work. For some reason it is just not kicking on when the car is at an idling or in stop and go traffic. What could be causing this and is it typically a pretty pricey repair? Thanks in advance :)

Could be the fan relay, coolant temperature sensor, engine temperature gauge switch or the computer itself
