When the car is 1st started in the morning, put it in drive and accelerate. The trans. shifts higher than normal (3000 rpm's). After this 1st shift cycle, at the next intersection everything is back to normal.

Is this a pending problem that will get worse and eventuially fail?

Do I need to address this immediately?

Has the check engine light come on? It sounds like a bad shift solenoid but without a light to check, that is a guess.
