When starting my vehicle cold, it turns over excessively before starting. Start it, shut it off, it starts right up. Let it set for a few minutes or overnight it starts hard. I just had the fuel pump replaced. This did not help. Machanic told me that the pump was bleeding down. Now with new pump, he sais it is still bleeding down. The thing runs fine, but seems to idle a little rough at times. Machanic recommends changing entire fuel pump module. Is this necessary, or could something else be wrong?

You need to check the fuel pressure regulator to see if it is bleeding through that.

Hi there,

Do this simple test first, when starting, just turn on ignition and wait 2-3 sec then try and start, if it goes then you may have a faulty pressure regulator valve, this can also be checked by having fuel rail pressure test done and see if there is any excessive pressure loss with the engine off.
