Whenever I step on the brakes or put the engine in gear (while stepping on the brake pedal), the brakes make this squeaky kind of sound. I have had the brake pads replaced within the past year and hear no air in the system when pressing on the brakes. What could be the cause of this?

The noise from the brakes is most likely caused from a glaze that was built up on the rotors prior to having the brakes replaced. If the mechanic only replaced the pads and did nothing to the rotors, then have them removed and slightly cut to clean the glaze off them. Then take the new brake pads and with sand paper, sand the glaze from them. That should get rid of the noise.

Let me know if this helps.
