My 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo is not running now. My exhaust is split ( probably from a faulty mechanic who took off my bad catalytic converter) so I know it will need exhaust work possible a replacement. Before it backfired and cut out on me, it would stall at an idle, barely drive without hesitation or stalling. I thought maybe it was the fuel pump, I have had other things worked on ex. Crank sensor etc. Will my Jeep run if my exhaust is replaced or fixed or will I need a fuel pump as well? If that is the case wont that be more than the car is worth? I bought it at $2500 and a few months later it started acting up with the hesitating and stalling. What do you suggest. I know I should take it to another mechanic and see what he says now that my exhaust is pretty messed up but if I take it to a mechanic I want to either fix it right then and ther and knwo what I am up against.
