1994 Jeep Laredo Heater Problems

Heater problem
1994 Jeep Laredo V6 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 250000 miles

My AC does not cool and my heater does not heat. Refrigerant is fine. Blower fan works. Sometimes when I attempt to turn on the AC I hear a screeching sound. Could you help me to diagnose the problem?
