Recently,
I have noted that the oil pressure gauge at highway speeds ususally keeps within the 45-60 psi. range. It now will sometimes jump sharply and briefly to 80 psi and then quickly drop back to normal range.

Its either the oil pressure switch is out of calibration or the oil pump pressure relief valve is sticking

I have a 95 grand 6cyl. I have been having the exact same problem, it cut off on my the other day, when I cranked back up the oil gauge was all over the place jumping from 0-80 in spastic bursts. Since, I have taken it to the local shop I use and they have told me that the engine has a blockage, they like to speak to me in "laymen" so they referred to it as an aneurysm, however they cannot get to it to unblock it and the gauge jumping about is the engine taking a bypass route so when it reaches 80 the bybass occurs and that is when the gauge jumps about. I am no mechanic, I have a very backyard approach to cars following my dad around working on carburetors and such but I love my jeep and have had it forever but they are telling me it is going to leave me stranded and it could be tomorrow or it could be in a couple of months but there was nothing they could do to help the blockage and one day the bypass will just stop! They suggest I start searching for a new car, they did not try to sell me on a new engine so I considered their consideration legit. What are your perspectives on this advice? I cannot go to my family's 3 hours away for Thanksgiving because they have me petrified my jeep may keel over at any point! Help!!!!
Thanks,
Meghan Lewellyn
