1988 Jeep Comanche oil circulation

The truck is pushing out oil through the top of the engine, especially through the "new" valve pan cover gaskets. we changed the gasket because of this problem. It is like the oil is getting stuck in the top of the engine and not circulating back down. Please tell me what could be going on, if you can.

how dirty was this engine when you changed the vavle cover gasket,the oil on top of the head just flows thru a return hole back to the pan,it has to be pluged with guck
