My cj7 drive shaft spins but will not move. This has been an issue with 4'wd but 2wd has now gone out and I am unable to enjoy the winter air.

This happened while driving about 45 mph and the gear shifter jumped out of gear(not the first time)
, put shifter back in gear, gave it the gas and wouldn't go anymore.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The brakes look ok from pic that I can see it looks like the bearing broke form axle and a new bearing if it will press on may fix this see arrows as the 4 bolts hold axle in.

Yes, when I pulled the tire out several bearings and a metal ring fell out. In the middle of the brake drum it seems to have sheared the metal that bearing would adhere too. When this initially happened and jeep stopped in road, smoke and fluid came from around this tire. Not sure if it was brake fluid but lost brake pressure and had to "pump" brakes to stop.

Well I can't see it to verify but most you'll need is brake job maybe a wheel cylinder and axle bearing and or axle. Course you'll have to bleed brakes.

Ok that hopefully that will take care of the rear 2 wheels, but for front two wheels not spinning. Drive shaft spins also. There is nothing visibly broken. How would I check axle breakage on front wheels. Need to take tires off?
