1985 Jeep CJ7 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

I am having trouble getting the fuel pump to pick up gas from the fuel tank. I just dropped the tank and installed a new sending unit.All the hoses looked to be in good shape. Installed new fuel pump. This jeep hasn't ran for a long time. just started working on it. any suggestions!!!!!

If the pump lost prime, try some starting fluid to help it, when the engine runs briefly, the pump can pump the gas faster...
