how do you replace starter?

Disconnect battery ground cable.
Disconnect cable from starter motor terminal.
Remove bracket and mounting bolts, starter motor and shims, as equipped.
Reverse procedure to install. On some 4-150 engines, shims are used to properly center starter in relation to flywheel ring gear. Shims are available in .015 inch and .045 inch sizes, with .045 inch being the nominal design shim dimension. If noisy starter engagement is observed, shims should be removed or installed, as needed to correct the problem. However, the total shim pack thickness cannot exceed .090 inch.
