See my profile, You say it will turn over?
This sound, can you isolate it to either motor (where) or to tranny, Starter or bellhousing etc?
Sometimes you can shove a piece of 5/16 or 3/8 hose, 2-3 feet long in your ear----use like a Stethoscope to pin down an area of the "Racket"
What have you messed with, be honest, or at least blame it on your buddy!
Serpentine Belt? You got a 304? Or has stuff been changed from original status?
Not trying to be SMART---I CAN HELP--Just cannot see/hear what you are seeing/hearing!
Read Post "1985 Jeep CJ 7 Stalls when Hot" IN CJ 7 FORUM (14 responses)(6 cylinder, lots of good stuff in post!) Get back wih me soon, WILL HELP YOU ALL I CAN! ---You will see the extent, I am willing to help!
Do you have a Manual (which one) so that we might reference this thing in unison?
Did you maybe bend a Fan Blade, pulley, ETC., Watch moving parts for hitting something while your EVIL BUDDY (Who "made" you get into this mess!) TURNS THE ENGINE OVER.
If the fan is bent---DO NOT STRAIGHTEN IT! ! !----Get a new one!---Otherwise your HOOD/HEAD may get a notch taken out---When the weakened metal, turns loose of a BLADE!
Please respond with any and everything that Your Jeep experienced just before, and after the "INCIDENT" your buddy got you into! (To include over-reving--engine damage due to extreme "pushing the limits") [Yes, been there, done that, Got it out of my system, at the expense of 2 CJ 5s]
Love, Turddog
