No voltage at fuel injectors

Jeep 1994 Grand Cherokee 8 cylinder engine. 172,000 miles. My Jeep had been running great then it started to cut out on acceleration. I changed the fuel filter, which was plugged up pretty bad, and now it will crank but not try to fire at all. I checked the fuel pressure and it reads 39 to 41psi. I have good spark to the plugs. Then I tried to read voltage at the injectors and I read no voltage! Any ideas?

Hi,

This vehicle has an automatic shut down (ASD) relay, but you indicated there is spark, so it must be working. The next step is the injectors. You indicated that they were checked. Most times the best way to check is by using what is called a noid light. This simple light is designed specifically to check for an injector pulse. Often times, people use test lights also. Take a look through this link. It discusses specifically how to test for an injection pulse.

If you confirm there is no pulse, the next thing I need you to check is the ground to the PCM. If you look at pic 1, it shows how multiple wires splice together and then one goes to ground. It isn't uncommon for a splice to corrode or become loose or damaged causing issues for specific components.

Once you confirm that ground is good, I need you to confirm the ground which ties together all injectors and the ASD. I know the ASD is good, but once again, there is a splice that can cause issues. See pic 2

If that ground is good as well and there is still no injection pulse, I need to go check the PCM pins for the injectors for a pulse. If you look at pics 3 and 4, they show the pins related to each injector. We need to determine if power is available there.

If you note, there are three fuses at the top right of pic 4. I want to assume they are good since you have spark, but confirm they are.

Okay, if this all checks out, the PCM will need removed and inspected. It may have failed.

Please note that cam shaft sensor will interrupt an injection pulse, but you would also loose the fuel pump function and ignition spark. Basically. If PCM does not sense input from cam position sensor, the PCM will deactivate ASD and fuel pump relays, interrupting voltage to fuel pump, fuel injectors, and ignition coil, causing a no start condition. However, we are back to the idea that you have fuel pressure and ignition spark, so that shouldn't be an issue.
