Jeep Cherokee oxygen sensor

Hi guys! 1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4WD: 86,000 miles.

I've had a rattle develop from under the truck - worst at start up and idle. Had a shop tell me the oxygen sensor in the cat converter is loose and rattling. I don't believe the converter itself is bad.

Question is: shop wants to replace the whole converter due to the loose sensor. Is it possible to simply have the sensor replaced? Are these screwed in or welded into the converter?

Makes sense to just replace the sensor rather than the whole converter if I don't have to.

Thanks alot!

The o2 sensor screws into the exhaust pipe near the converter. You don't need to replace the converter. If you are somewhat handy you can change it yourself. Its about 100.00 or less. The sensor looks like a spark plug with a wire comming out of the top whic is plugged into a connector comming off the enigine.
