I've got the same problem with a 95 Cherokee 4.0 Liter The garage I took it too told me that it is indeed the computer...and to take it home and drive it until it dies completely. They could find no faults or error codes with any of their machines but they have heard of this problem before with Jeeps. Any help would be invaluable.

I don't know if this will help but I had a problem with an 85 ford ranger truck. It would consistently stall,
within 4-6 miles everytime I drove it. It would have to sit 10-15 minutes before it would start again. Then it would run fine without any more problems as long as it didn't sit for more than a couple of hours, then the process repeated. I got so used to this that I pretty much had mapped out
my way to where ever I was going so I could have a safe place to pull over when it happened.
The problem turned out to be the "pick up coil" in
the distibutor. It runs great now, seems my gas mileage is a little better as well. Another possibility
is the "map sensor". I do not know if this is your problem, but I do know both these parts aint cheap,
about $50 each. Let me know what ya do find out.

I'm having Cherokee problems of my own that I can't
figure out. My 89 is hard to start but idles fine. It runs
good until it changes into a higher gear, then it loses
power, misses and has a slight backfire. Any ideas?
