Engine Performance problem
2006 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Hi, I was hoping you could help me. I have a Grand Cherokee with a 3.7 Liter V-6. The gas mileage has recently dropped from over 17 mph to 11 mph. In addition, when the engine RPM is revved to 4,000 the engine fluctuates as if there is a idle control problem or fuel problem. I am being told that this is normal in the newer jeeps. Is this ture? Thanks for your assistance.

Hi:
I say that it isn't normal. It sounds like a bad throttle position sensor (TPS) but I can't be sure without checking for codes. If the check engine light is on, take it to a nationally recognized parts store and most do it for free.

As far as the MPG, this could have an adverse effect on that plus the O2 sensor can too. Have those things checked.
