2004 Jeep Cherokee How to pull engin OBD II codes

2004 Jeep Cherokee V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic 45,xxx miles

I tryed to pull codes by using the key on and off 3 times method, and afterward is says "Done" on the lcd in the dash.
What did I do, and why no code flashes?
