2004 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

when i have my headlights off and hit the brakes the brake lights come on. when my headlights are on and i hit the brakes my driver side brake light doesnt go on but the other lights do. what can be the problem

Alot of lights in you car have two filaments in one light bulb. So you can do two different jobs with one light. ie the high beams and low beams in your head lights. So probably all that has happened is that one of your filaments have burned out on that one side you if you just change that bulb it should fix the problem.
