They make a thermometer that can be placed in the top of the radiator to check coolant temp. I believe parts stores will lend or rent them. What I suggest is to get one, with the engine cold, open the rad and place it in, allow the engine to heat up and check what temp the coolant gets to. It should end up around 200 degrees F. That way you will know if it is overheating.
