The hood was up, and it slammed down on me when I was checking the oil level. How do I know which lift is defective? Also, how do I replace them.
On line, these parts list out at $90.00 each. Why so expensive?

I assume you have a 2002 Grand Cherokee. Always replace hood struts in pairs. You can use a pair of Vise Grip pliers to hold the hood up while you replace them. Your best bet is to go to a dealer to purchase them. Aftermarket hood struts don't last very long.
