my brakes have become soft and spongy. I thought it was air in the lines and bled the brakes, and it worked for a couple of days but started happening again. I was told it could be my master cylinder but I'm hoping it isn't. is there any way I could still have air in the lines, or anything else. I don't want to spend money on something I don't need

Sounds like something is allowing air back into the system. Try to narrow it down. Bleed the left front and right rear and see if there is a change. IF not, go to the opposite two. I doubt a master cylinder. I've had brake hoses and wheel cylinders that have done this. Sometimes you can see seapage, other times nothing.
