2001 Jeep Cherokee voltage gauge

i have an 2001 jeep cherokee and for about a month the voltage gauge go from 14 to 19 and the check gauges light come on and if i turn left or right it goes back to normal. and before i can have it checked it will not start at all. it tries to but the voltage gauge goes from 14 to zero and now it just clickes
