Just got a new cylinder head put in my 01 Jeep. Then the oil pressure (accordiing to the gauge) starting moving quite a bit. Move up from 40 (cruising) to 50-60 range when accelerating and down to 15 when idle. Mechanic replaced the sending unit and it still does it but only down to about 25 on the low end.

Any help?

Hi:
Actually, that sounds normal. 60 PSI is the point that the oil pressure by pass kicks in to avoid more pressure. At idle, 25 PSI is excellent. If you feel it is wrong, you can rent or some stores will lend a gauge that will screw into where the sending unit is. Then you can check to see if your gauge is accurate. If it is, I wouldn't worry about a thing. If it goes below 10 or above lets say 70, then have it checked.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Joe

Could be the oil pump pressure relief valve sticking-Remember the faster the oil pump turns the higher the oil pressure
